Caribbean Unity & Upliftment (Spoken Word)
We’re here, capable, united
No fear, unshakable, undivided
A new year, unbreakable, inspired
This ain’t no love story, but love is necessary
To fill the hearts, that were once empty
Love abound, plenty plenty,
Once Lost now we’re found, all yuh ready?
They said we couldn’t hold our own but we held it down
They said we couldn’t get it right but we showed them how
They said we wouldn’t win the fight, but we took the crown
They said we’d never see the light but we shining now
The time is now, beloved family and friends, homies, baunaz, patnaz and bredrins,
This is a new era, we need a new attitude
No more bad mind, screw face, kissing teeth or playing the fool
I’m taking it back to the old school, I mean way way back
Before the genocide of Caribs and Arawaks,
Before sugar cane plantations of exploitation, indentured immigrants and black emancipation
Before the ships that carried our forefathers to predetermined destinations
We came from many diverse tribes and nations,
People of chivalry, community and education,
Religion, mathematics, science and self-determination,
Forget the small talk we gotta change the conversation,
With mutual love, respect and co-operation
Collaboration for intentional community, Caribbean unity,
social activism, academic opportunities,
family strategy, moral continuity, emotional mastery and communal ingenuity
really and truly, big up to all the mothers that held it down
and all the fathers who stuck around, still alive or underground
who didn’t get proper recognition, sacrificed so much for their children
Let us come together even though we are different…energetic souls in life!
Because We’re here, capable, united
No fear, unshakable, undivided
A new year, unbreakable, inspired
This ain’t no love story, but love is necessary
To fill the hearts, that were empty
Love abound, plenty plenty,
Once Lost now we’re found, all yuh ready?
